Up Your Scent Quotient!
Part of being groomed means smelling good
An integral part of a pleasing personality is that attractive, clean, fresh scent which not only enhances the wearers image but also boosts their self-confidence, apart from impressing upon those around them the effects of inculcating good grooming habits.

The art of alchemy
Wearing perfume is as much an art as a science. Its alchemy with the skin produces results of much pleasure. Not every fragrance, though, is meant to suit every personality, nor can it be universally liked or enjoyed. Follow these simple tips.

- Firstly, take time to understand your perfume.
- Work wear demands a different kind of fragrance as do after hour activities, parties or formal meetings. Also, daywear and night wear fragrances are generally different in that, the heavy ones are for night while the light ones are for day time use. Avoid the stronger scents at work, instead opt for light floral or then crisp, businesslike water, citrus based or woody scent. Save the heavier florals for leisure outings with family or friends, the strong spicy scents or oriental for occasions or parties while leathery or heavy wood scents work well for formal business meetings, conferences or seminars.
- The cardinal rule of perfume wearing is that you apply it on pulse points-base of neck, behind the ears, decolletage, inside elbows, behind knees, at the ankles, inside wrists-from where the body heat helps it to diffuse better.
- Any perfume of quality will have three nuances: top note, heart or middle note and base note.
- Oily skin retains perfume better. If your skin is Dry apply body lotion to the skin before spraying perfume to make it hold longer.
- Never apply perfume on clothes or jewellery directly, whether precious or artificial. It will most likely cause discoloration, peeling or tarnishing or may stain clothes.
- Do not keep perfume for more than two years without opening; after that long its chemical composition will alter, making it smell quite different from when you bought it.
- When buying perfume, sample it on your skin rather than on paper strips to get a better idea of how it reacts with you individually.
- A perfume need not be horrendously expensive to be enjoyed. If you have a not-too-high budget, just tell the salesperson and ask for their guidance. There are quite a few brands available in the Indian market today that cost below Rs. 1000 and are very nice indeed.
- The way to cultivate a scent so that it becomes part of your personality is by using the entire bath and body line, not just the fragrance. Start with perfumed soap/shower gel, body lotion/ moisturiser, taic, body spray/deo, finally finishing off with a generous spritz of perfume!

An expert tip on how to fix a scent; first apply some talcum powder to the spot where you are using the perfume and then apply the fragrance. Alternately, you could apply the fragrance and then apply the talcum powder, if you want a stronger layering of the scent then reapply over the powder. This ensures that the fragrance binds with your skin and releases slowly and leaves a lasting perfume. For travelling, consider investing in a solid perfume which can be applied with your finger instead of lugging cumbersome heavy breakable bottles with yourself.
