The Festive Spirit!
Whether you are looking for funky stuff this diwali, or traditional ways to design your home, the choices are limitless
Its the time of the year when you want to do up your home, preferably giving it a rich look by spending as little as possible. Of course, if your pockets are deep, then it certainly helps...

The good thing about this season is that everyone in the business has festive offers, and you can go traditional, or a little crazy. If its the traditional look you want, try Bungalow 8s opulent range of table and bed linen in jade green, Chinese lacquer red and pearly white; they especially called in Benaresi weavers to craft it. This lavish collection features bold graphic patterns -a slight change from conventional motifs-and rich, elegant colours. Try the tableware in metallic tones and translucent materials like mother of pearl and abalone shell.

Then theres the Dreams Diwali Collection 2005, bed and bath linen using luxuriant fabrics, embroidery techniques and intricate mirror work in tune with the festive season. The collection is predominantly in vibrant colours like bright reds, maroons, turquoise blue and wine, evoking the festive spirit. Cream, fawn and gold, enhance its grace. Shabbir Yusuf, director, Dreams says "Our Diwali collection is specially designed keeping in mind the vibrant colours of the season which draws inspiration from the festival of lights. We have also used a hint of gold and cream with ornamentation depicting the richness and tradition of this festival.." The collection is priced at Rs. 95 onwards for cushion covers, Rs. 595 onwards for divan sets and Rs. 795 onwards for bed covers. There are also dulhan sets and gift packs.

If you like the wild and funky look, check out Loose Ends opposite Shoppers Stop at Bandra. Madhu Goswami, who describes the store as an "outlet that cant make up its mind", tells us that this festive season, they have decided to "reaffirm its ambiguous state of mind". Its the candles you should be checking out-stout candles with interesting relief motifs on them in thick wax, plus theres lots of flower power, Yin-Yang and the classic 70s peace symbol making their presence felt. Or you can go in for truck-art inspired street graphics in cushion covers, with auto rickshaws and scooters done up in sequins and embroidery. Also look out for their rock legend coasters and lamps, brazen item bomb pens-whatever those are! -and much more.

"This brilliantly flamboyant series of images mix the brazen look of a Mumbai street with an unrestrained ink and brush abstract," says Madhu.

So let your imagination go wild this festive season, and give your home a new look. Who said Diwali decor had to be boring!
