Noise Can Lead To Silence
Staying in a place full of noise often gives a headache or becomes a nuisance. On the other hand silence can rejuvenate and enrich the mind. It is a fact that in silence man can most readily preserve his integrity. Studies today have proved that exposure to noise can result in hearing loss and in some cases it may also lead to complete deafness.
Walkmans can be dangerous to your childs health. Teach children to keep the volume low and not to use the walkman continuously for hours each day to prevent hearing loss say experts who are beginning to see the cumulative effects of noise pollution from workplaces, functions, pressure horns and other noise on the road.

One estimate is that nearly 10% of Indians suffer from some form of hearing loss, many without realising it. Children and the elderly are particularly vulnerable. Women, it seems, have greater resistance to noise than men.

Doctors say Indians suffer ageing deafness between 10-15 years earlier than people in developed countries. Studies indicate that in the Indian subcontinent, this is because our day-to-day life is full of noise-at the home, travel, workplace, say: A K Agarwal, dean of Maulana Azad Medical College and Associated Hospitals.

When doctors met up with industry at Assocham to discuss noise exposure and occupational health on Saturday, they had an intent audience. MAMC ENT professor Achal Gulati said walkmans are causing unimaginable damage-Michael Jackson at 60 decibels is music; Michael Jackson at 120 decibels is noise. The cause of worry for the experts is the unseen damage caused by the pressure and multi-tone horns on roads, the blaring music on roads and in discotheques, loud speakers blaring each function into every home, the improper use of loud crackers, the noise at the workplace, the noise from planes and trains. As one put it, we make a noise when we are born, when we get engaged, when we get married. And, we keep making a noise.

If youre exposed to 80-85 decibels for eight hours, over the years, there is likely to be some form of hearing loss. If you believe this doesnt include you, be careful. Acoustic trauma could bring tragedy one fine day. Irrational use of medicines and diabetes, tension, kidney and chest problems add to the problem.
