Green is the colour
The favourite colour of the season is green. The colour goes well with the desi skin tone of the indians.
Colours are known to possess emotional properties. Season after season, the fashion community Worldwide has been harnessing the potent imaginative powers of colours. While traditionally, fall witnesses an opulent costume drama staged in all its extravagant excesses-this year witnesses the colour green occupy center stage. And with oriental exotica ruling the international ramparts, green has come to embody the luxuriant spoils of the East.

Perfectly complimenting the bronzed desi skin tone, theres almost a different shade of green to suit every skin type and every occasion from the freshness of cucumber, eau de nil, avocado, asparagus, the lushness of kiwi, moss green, the faded beauty of pistachio, olive, sage, mint, the intense richness of emerald, jade, verdigris, sea green to even the whimsical aquamarine, go green is the style dictate.

Earlier, green was primarily used as a contrast colour to break the monotony of solid monochromes, but over the past few seasons weve seen it come into its own. From fluorescent lime greens to the grungy military cargo green, it has traversed a long way till its present-day avatar as a deep-set jewel tone reflecting the grandiose mood of fall," observes designer Kavitha Bhartia.

Lured by the tempestuousness of the colour is the discerning global buyer, who as designer Monisha Jaisingh points out, is smitten by this quintessentially Indian colour. "Plush green is a very strong tone which blends with olive complexions perfectly. Id designed a whole line of green kaftans in metallic tissue, chiffon and georgette accentuated with gold embroidery last year which are being reordered by stores in the West this fall too."

Glamourous, yet serene, dominant, yet not overbearing, the colour green is the preferred choice of international bigwigs. From Karl Lagerfelds jewel-cuffed coat and halter neck dresses in algae greens, Roberto Cavallis Garden of Eden printed flamboyant gypsy skirts and lavish tiger printed kaftans, Marc Jacobs bold tweed check coats in olive to Proenza Schoulers geometric greens the colour is here to stay. Accessorised brilliantly with mettalic bedouin slippers, chunky kundan earrings, zardozi potli bags and evening dresses cut just below the bust, giving way to a gentle, feminine billow-the shade green embodying greed, envy and passion is the ideal gateway to a season of high headliness.
